CETT's Horizontal Directional Drilling Course a Success

On June 4 & 5, 2014 CETT hosted its second annual Short Course on the Planning and Design of Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Projects. Much like last year's course, this year's course set record attendance, bringing in participants from as far as Quebec and Iowa.

For two days, participants attended a number of lectures on HDD risk and analysis given by CETT’s Director, Dr. Alireza Bayat, CETT’s Industry Partner and Vice President of The Crossing Company Inc., Manley Osback, as well as Dr. Karl Lawrence, co-founder of Terien Inc. and co-creator of HDD planning software, BoreAid. New to the roster this year was Pete Barlow of BGC Engineering, who was kind enough to share his knowledge on geotechnical considerations in drilling operations with course-goers.

Once again, the completion of the course was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback. As this is one of few courses offered in North America on the subject, Dr. Bayat and his team of instructors will be returning to the drawing board to plan and improve 2015’s course and continue to uphold its reputation for quality education.
